One activity I love to do when I have free time is to cover wooden boxes with pretty paper. Here are two I did yesterday using some wonderful Alexander Girard paper and some by Sean Simms. I use them for pens etc.. The old wooden boxes came from my local flea market in Totnes.

Spent the whole of today getting ready for Christmas with my three year old daughter. We made some very simple cards from felt and coloured paper and divided lots of Christmas chocolates into small cellophane bags for stocking fillers.

'I love kutchi' is a new shop in Barcelona that I sell some of my toys to. The owner Mara left her previous career as an architect to open this super shop that sells handmade items. It also runs craft workshops. The shop is here. She asked me to look at her new shop window display. Her shop and story is so inspiring and filled with sheer happiness.

If I could tell you the best two books I've purchased this year, Print & Pattern 2 would be one and this book would definitely be the other. I'm so into the 60s graphics in this book - the simplicity of the packaging designs seem so incredibly naive to me but at the same time, so stylish, non fussy and contemporary. I love 90% of what's in this book and shall enjoy it for years. Simple design really excites me. Do any of you out there have similar taste to me?

I'm in love with my new Janome sewing machine!! Until now I'd been using a machine I'd inherited which had started to sound clunky. This new machine is utterly incredible - there's a button you can press to cut the thread, you can have a super fast speed, it can sew 7 buttons... the list in endless and I'm a very happy person.

Sunday morning art session for our new 'art door'

Had the most marvelous morning today with my family - we've allocated our living room door as our 'art door' and are going to fill it with pictures. I've been working on some new screen print ideas whilst our three year old daughter Polly has been doing her own too. I love her work the most as it's so free and spontaneous. My partner Jim also did one which is the more complicated blue flower one with intricate stalks. No guesses which one is mine - the one with the striped vase!

1966 Designs for making your own furniture

I re-discovered this book last week when I was looking for my old Habitat catalogue. It dates from 1966 and has some wonderful ideas in it. I often wished I'd had the chance to do wood work at school but instead, I always ended up doing technical drawing with the Deputy Head! (the short straw!) I love the bold colours and square ends of the furniture.

Habitat closure

I can't stop thinking how sad it is that Habitat is closing most of it's stores. It feels like the end of an era to me as I was a 70s child whose parents loved Habitat and thought it was the height of good design. I grew up with it and have always loved the simplicity and boldness of it's design. My parents had a bright green chrome armed sofa and those wicker chairs that bounced. We had Habitat brightly coloured lampshades and ice buckets and a few thick plastic coat hooks. I had this 70s catalogue on my shelf and flicking through the pages, feel it was really ahead of it's time and totally got away from chintz and florals. I still love many items in this catalogue and would still give them house space. (And can recognize a few actually in our home!) Even the children's toy sections were exciting and tasteful. This is the first time I've ever felt sad at a shop's closure. Does anyone else feel this too?

I've recently received this wonderful new kids detective book by Lajka Books. I was immediately struck with the cool illustrations - mid century modern designs that would definitely appeal to all those retro families out there! Erik and his dog Nipper have to hunt for the stolen canary, camera and horn-rimmed glasses. Available here and definitely worth a look.

We couldn't afford a new super duper VW camper so have instead purchased a coach built 1980s Cotswold Celeste Caravan instead! We bought it two weeks ago and have since renovated it - painted the walls and ceiling white, made Orla Kiely fabric curtains, added cushions, patchwork quilt, rubber vinyl floor and a new loo!

We're also going to add new formica to the existing brown table. It's been fun and we can't wait to tour around Cornwall and the beautiful coastline here.

Wonderful fabric from a wonderful friend

I visited my lovely friend Alice yesterday and returned with this wonderful fabric that I quickly made into a cushion. This is definitely a cushion I'll never part with. I couldn't believe my luck when I discovered Alice (Alice as in 'Alice Apple') lived round the corner from me - I'd be a huge fan of hers for a few years! We've since had numerous fabric and wallpaper swaps and it's always exciting visiting Alice in her wonderful home bursting with Scandinavian finds, cool pictures, cushions etc... She designs the most fabulous fabrics, makes super toys and is a lovely kind friend.

I recently stumbled upon these wonderful children's wall stickers from Habitat. My daughter loves looking at them from her bed. They go nicely with the multi coloured quilt and are fun to count.

It's wonderful being a mum and having an excuse to buy vintage puzzles without feeling guilty! Here are some fabulous vintage 70s Galt Toys puzzles with wonderful patterns (there are more in the set but these are the best ones) The German number game is to help with maths but I think I'm going to frame these.
